Can You "Nest" 2 Top Quilts?

Just wondering if it's possible (and actually usable) to nest 2 top quilts together for winter use? For example, could I put a 40 degree burrow inside a 0 degree burrow? I'm wondering more about the fit of the two quilts with one inside the other (i.e. in the footbox area etc.). I've done this with sleeping bags and it works ok... Anyone have experience doing this?

Tried it. Works great. Bonus heat from trapped air between the quilts. Just less packable and more heavy than a true rated quilt.

I too have tried it and yes it works great. My only issue was I needed at least an 85 liter or possibly bigger to fit the quilts and you still have to worry about your "under" insulation as well and stacking these was much more of a challenge for me.

Thanks guys this is promising I have a 0 degree and 30 degree underquilt and have stacked those with great results (totally eliminates any cold spots I had with just using my 0 degree. My 0 degree is an extra long so I put that on the outside (the 30 degree first) and it seems to work really well. I'm going to get a 40 degree top quilt today and then likely a 0 degree later in the year that I can use in the fall and spring. I was hoping to combine the 40 degree with the 0 degree top quilt for cold winter use so it sounds like that plan will work good and give me good flexibility!

Works great, better if the top top quilt is wider. I've coupled a 50deg underquilt under a 20deg underquilt and slept comfortably when it was 0deg out.

A 0º and a 30º will get you to around -30º more or less depending on you.

I nest my 3 season UQ with my 3 season TQ in that most glorious of seasons, the 4th!
I have a UGQ 0* Zeppelin to replace my UQ.

    If I have a 50 degree synthetic and a 30
Degree down, which one would you put on the outside? Why?

It depends on the situation but 90% of the time I would go synthetic on the outside because sounds like you are trying to hit colder weather capabilities and your breath condensation on the synthetic quilt will have little to no effect on its ability to trap air whereas the down will begin to compress and wilt inside when wet which will decrease its effectiveness at trapping air. You will get colder with a moist down quilt.
