I love the idea of downs weight and compressibility but does it work well if sleeping in it when you head compresses the down?

I use an adjustable fleece balaclava that I or from REI. I’ve had it down to as low as 2* overnight and was perfectly fine. The one I found has two adjustment cords, one to tighten up and seal along the brow line, and the second loosens the piece covering your nose and mouth so you can uncover them if you want.

I have a Seirus Hoodz as well and like it for the looser fit. I usually throw it over a Mountain Hardware Dome Perignon if my cheeks are feeling chilled. For me it makes for a really warm and flexible combo. Tried the Ultra Clava and hated the tightness and confining feeling.

I forgot I had one of those hoods. I bought a camo one for deer hunting, about $9 on amazon at the time.

VERY VERY soft, plush fleece. I'll need to try this while sleeping in the hammock.

Mine is just a black wool balaclava I got at the Army/Navy store in Athens, Georgia several years back. It does have a tendency to be grabby and end up twisted around so that my eyes get covered up sometimes, but I have no complaints about the warmth.

Congrats on a 1st winter hang. 10F in NC is cold. Thanks for sharing - the Jarbridge is a great little UQ.

It was a rare -1F here last night and a great opportunity to shatter my personal best of +15F, BUT I wimped out and slept near the fire - inside.

thanks @oldpappy it was in Virginia at Grayson Highlands but it was still cold and didn't really warm up the whole weekend. If I had used toe warmers I think I would have been perfect. not cold at all really

Ever find it freezing on your face when covering your mouth due to the moisture? I’ve never been a fan of a mouth covering but always desired something for my nose in cold weather so this hood does intrigue me other than the thought of frost on the mouth and steam being pushed up to my eyes.

No, can’t say as I have. I’ve slept in this particular one down to 2*F, it’s thick enough that frost formed on the outer layer, but not against my skin. Shug also pointed me to Dermatone skin protectant. Works like a champ!

My experience has been the same as TxAggie. I've used it below freezing a bunch of times with no issues. I also use it skiing when it's bitter out. They make a more windproof version I'm thinking of trying. https://www.amazon.com/Seirus-Innova.../dp/B0018BPL5E

I'm wondering though, do the zippers bother you when you're laying on them?
