Lots of ideas here I haven't seen before. I've been a long time SLS user with the becket and a prusik/hook setup for my tarp. I hadn't heard of the EVO until your post. Appreciate you sharing, something to play around with.

Crayons - they might look different, but they all taste the same
Set the SLS up yesterday with an asym tarp with multiple ridge options, and eliminated the Zingit & Hook Worm section. I like it more than the Zingit setup. The Zingit & Hook Worms were there to adjust the ridge length when raising and lowering the tarp relative to the hammock, but with six tie out options on the asym tarp (a replica of KitsapCowboys KISS Glassgow Asym with an additional pair of ridge tie out points) I can adjust the length of the ridge from 124" to 139" by combining various tie out points.
So much easier without the Zingit section...
I'd love to hear more about your SLS setup..
Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....

SLS is fairly simple. Couple feet of 1”, 5’ of mule tape, braided mason line for the prusik, old speed hook for the tarp. There’s cons to the SLS but it works for me.

That's where I ended up but with one long strap rather than strap + mule tape, and a CL of dynaglide in a prussik to capture the diamond knots on the tarp.
Can't take anything else away to simplify.
Agree on pros and cons.. but it's got a specific use and in that manner, it's as good as it gets.
Did you dye the mule tape?

Nope, originally used to hold down hardy plank siding on a pallet. They were throwing it out, I picked it up.

Gotta love that...

When using this setup with a tarp, are you pretty much set with the height of the tarp over the hammock? How do you keep from putting too much tension on the tarp, or does your hammock naturally end up in a position that doesn’t stress the tarp when you lie down?

That's correct. There's not a lot of variation in the height of the tarp with this setup. The big reason for the prusik is to allow you to switch between tarps. I primarily use two tarps, an asym and a hex with doors on one side. Both are similar lengths and hang just above the ridgeline. No problems with the tarp getting over tentioned. Inspiration came from Jeremy at Bonefire gear. He does a good job of explaining it.

Full circle. Nothing wrong with simple. Good luck.
