    BWCA Burn Blowdown Question

Is it hard to find trees to stretch a hammock and tarp in the burn and blowdown area? Planning a trip in September in the Lake Four and Insula area. Thanks

You can generally find something but you may have to skip that campsite you counted on and travel a little further to find it.

You might be able to find some burned standing timber, but I wouldn’t hang on that. I went thru the burn North of Kawishiwi last year and it was pretty barren. The good news is that the burn ended when we got to Lake Poly. I would check with the ranger and see where the non burned areas are plan on making it there to camp, or bring a tent as a backup.

Man, I'm jealous. I went on my first trip up there this past June and it is such a cool place. I went in off the Gunflint (EP47). No burned areas, but I had a hard time finding a hang spot because there were too many trees! Lol! Made it work though and sure had a great trip. Looking forward to your trip report after you go.
