    Choosing UQ + TQ 0*

    Hi
I have been looking into getting a hammock for a while now.
Time to make it happen. I am from Australia, and traveling to US over Xmas. So I’m hoping to get some gear while over there to save shipping.
Temperatures I camp in go down to about -5c (23f) give or take a few degree. So I’m thinking -17c (0F) quilts
I will probably get an explorer Deluxe Hennessy hammock
With it quilts being a big ticket item$ and so many options with top quilts and underquilts I am lost.
I Just want something that will do the job

I would strongly recommend looking at some of the cottage vendors hammocks as they are simply better then the Hennessy offerings. Check out SimplyLightDesigns, Hammock Gear, Dutchweargear, Warbonnet, etc the list goes on and on if you want a quality comfortable hammock. You may also want to order your quilts as there are very few manufactures that have ready to go quilts.

Thanks. I have had a look at them online a few times. What’s the difference between these and the quilts I can find that are twice the price?

Duck down instead of goose down.
    Little heavier but not much.
Read SPECS and look under FAQs.

    From HammockGear website:
What are the differences between your Econ and Premium quilts?
The main difference between Premium and Econ quilts is the weight, due to a couple of factors. The first is, we use Ion fabric (20 denier) on our Econ quilts versus the Argon 67 (10 denier) and Argon 90 (15 denier) fabric we use on our Premium quilts. The only other difference is, we use 800 DWR Duck Down in the Econ quilts versus the 850 DWR or 950 DWR Goose Down used in our premium model quilts. The difference in weight ends up being approximately 4-5 ounces heavier for the Econ quilts, depending on the model. Both the Econ and Premium version are issued the same size stuff sack, dependent upon its temperature rating.

The Econ line uses Ion fabric as opposed to Argon, a little heavier but still very soft and silky. Also uses 800 fill duck down as opposed to 850 goose down. Both use hydrophobic down. The Econ line is the best bang for the buck with regards to hammock quilts, no question. You might want to get your order in quickly though, as lead times may tick up a bit.

Just to throw another name out there, I use Underground Quilts (UGQ) for my winter set up. Just another great cottage vendor to look at.

I'll second UGQ. I purchased a new 0° F top quilt from them and can't be happier. They have several build options on there website to keep things within a budget. And their specs are clearly shown for you to compare the tradeoffs of options. I overstuffed the top portion as I camp in humid environments.

You could also look at Little Shop of Hammocks, if you want to keep your $$ within the empire

James makes nice quilts too, and canadian winter quilts will definitely keep you warm in Oz
