A group of four of us talked about this hang for a while and struggled with our work schedules. We finally agreed to make the four hour drive even if it was only for one night.
By noon on Saturday we arrived just outside of Iola Wi at Da Shack where plenty of people were already enjoying the hang and the fire. There were so many different hammock set ups spread through out the woods. You guys with the Hot Tents and hammocks have it figured out. Very Nice set ups.
We did have a tenter in our group who enjoyed it all the same. We were glad he made it out camping with us.
Shortly after set up we ate lunch, moved a little firewood and headed out on the Ice Age trail for a short hike. It was so nice to have a trail right at Da Shack and with the weather being 36º we couldn't resist. Great Work putting that in Tumbleweed!
What was great is the fire was always going and there was no shortage of food to eat. From the cornbread to pulled pork, to beef sandwhiches to calzones and so much more. We knew for sure we wouldn't starve.
We spent the rest of the afternoon and into the evening lounging around and grazing on the dishes. Some of us went inside of da shack while others sat and enjoyed the fire. Later in the evening there was a White Elephant gift exchange that many enjoyed. I am looking forward to opening the fresh canned cherries I got from it. Thanks Karla!
As the sun went down a few of us (Myself & Marine AKA Backpacking with a Hammock) had drones there and we put them up to get some video and photos of the hang. I look forward to seeing your video Marine.
and my absolute favorite shot.
The next morning we had to pack up and take the four hour drive home, some of us had to work by noon so we were crunched for time. If you live in Mpls, Ironically the Da Shack hang is closer than the Minnesota Frozen Butt Hang, not by much though. Both are great and worth you time if you get a chance to see them.
We had a great time at Da Shack Hang. Thanks for the good food and good conversation.
I didn't get to film much, but I got some footage of the event if some want to see it.
Lastly the tenter of our group did a short write up of his experience that has a link with a few more pictures if people are interested.
