Mountain Laurel Designs Hammock Hex Tarp

I need to buy a tarp for my new Warbonnet Blackbird XLC. Does anyone have experience with the Mountain Laurel Designs Hammock Hexagon Tarp? It's 10.5 feet long and most other manufacturers dedicated hammock tarps seem to be 11 feet long. MLD makes outstanding products, and I'm sure I could ask Ron there to make it 11 feet, but I'd prefer to avoid the customization fee.

Yea, I'd opt for the longer tarp unless you are a fair weather hanger.

    Welcome to HF!

An XLC under a 10.5' tarp would leave only about 7" of clearance on each side if everything was setup ideally. If you're comfortable with that...

I like MLD gear as well, but they aren’t my first go to for hammock related items. Six inches can make a lot of difference in foul weather.

11’ to 12’ is by far more common for good coverage for most hammocks these days.

there are cheaper options out there also, you can get a 11 foot tarp for less than that MLD 10 foot tarp. check out Arrowhead equipment, simply light designs and Hammock Gear to name a few

    MLD Hammock Hexagon Tarp Silnylon
    10.5' x 8.5'
    16.5oz
    $155.00

    WB Mamajamba Silnylon
    11' x 9.3'
    12.5oz
    $115.00

Unless you want DCF instead of silnylon, I don't see much of an argument for the MLD tarp. However, should you decide to go with WB, consider the Thunderfly. The mini doors provide a good deal more protection. It's 11' x 8.5' but is still lighter, in spite of the doors.
