    I like your idea.

Consideration: I like to use a small keychain biner to pull the two UQP side (mid-point) stretch-sides together over the top (after you are settled in). It pulls the UQP up as well as blocks wind/less fabric flapping. The UQP small shock cord probably won't compress your down much.

What do you attach to? Do you have a piece of shock cord attached to the biner that goes over the hammock ridgelkne to another on the other side?

In the middle of both sides of my 2QZQ UQP there is shock cord with a string stopper that is used to to snug the UQP sides up.
I keep the keyring biner attached to the loop it creates on one side. After settling in, just pull the two UQP mid points together (over you in the hammock - but not over the ridge line) and connect them. It makes an 'almost' enclosed sock/pod. If adding your CDQ puts too much strain on the center shock cord, add some shock cord to the biner connection.

The 5th picture in this post shows the UQP attached to a ridgeline as another option for you:

Got it, thanks. Tried out my setup with the CD throw as an extra insulation layer with my Gemini earlier this week. It worked great! Temps wer below 30 degrees and I was very warm and very happy. I think this setup could easily go down to teens or lower.

I have no doubt that this will work as a Summer UQ as well.

I like this idea a lot. Can you post an additional pic of the actual attachment point of the CDQ to the UDP ? Thanks.

    Here are some more pics.

Basically, I attached clews to the down throw. I did a clew on each end and then a clew on the next seam. Then after that I did a clew on every other seam until the other end where I again have a clew on the end and the first seam.

I then tied each clew to a piece of shock cord sized to the width of the UQ at the end and then attached/tied a toggle on each end of the shock cord. The toggle can be inserted into the grosgrain loop on the UQP on each side. There are lots of ways to do this, but the idea is that the clews allow the Throw perform similar to a Gemini Underquilt. Down the sides, I had 4 grosgrain loops added evenly spaced and then used cam snaps to attach the throw to the UQP

Looks like a fun project and I have a LL Bean down quilt to experiment with. My UQP has the bridge mod, so clew attach points are available. Something to do during tomorrow's rainy day. Thanks for sharing it.

This has me fired up and I bought a Kamsnap device to snap a costco quilt to my ZQ underquilt protector for summer use. Thanx

Great! It really worked well as an extra layer of insulation for winter a few weeks ago. Given the weird weather we are having right now, I may be able to try it out in "summer mode" way before Summer.
