Checking on the weather from mountain weather report. Two screenshots. One from Mount Rogers summit and the other from just under 3300 ft. Looks to be a cold one! Looking forward to it....at least for now. I may change my mind come the middle of the night!😀

Any tips to stay warm while sitting in the lawn chair around the fire?

Yes, a foam sit pad, and possibly a foam back pad
Bring 2 king sized comforters from home and wrap around
    Drink hot drinks
    Hawaiian print shirt
    Lap dog
    Hot peppers
Get lots of calories both fats and starches
Wear extra layers, put on 3 of your loosest T-shirt’s under your other extra layers
Move around some, muscles will generate heat
    Two twoboggans

My limited three season experience tells me that it will likely be 5 to 15 degrees cooler and likewise windier than the forecasts from down in the valley at Troutdale, Volney, Marion, Mouth of Wilson and such. I will be packing more warm gear than I ever have before. Hope it's enough.

Avoid synthetics so you can sit closer.

It looks to be a low or no precipitation forecast this weekend so I'm thinking the big group tarp could be better used as a wind block on one side of the shelter. Old Son of Blue might have one more winter left in it.

Probably right, but does hot air rise slower when there's a tarp in the way? What about radiant heat? Anybody have a smaller tarp that's silver on one side to hang over the fire?

Think I have at least a 16×20. Won't catch as much wind. We finally had to take down Son of Blue last year,it was being ripped apart. With that reflected heat theory, if we all just huddled under a silver tarp there would be enough hot air generated to keep all in t shirts!
