Hopefully it will be colder than last year when all the snow melted and it turned in to a mud hang.
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !

I'm thinking maybe I'll hang around closer to the fire pit on Friday instead of wandering off to Thomas Knob shelter...my UQ and TQ are only 20 degree quilts....looks like I need to go rewatch Shug's quilt layer video....
Where are you looking for your weather forecast?

It's changed a little bit since I posted but I got it from The Weather Channel for "Grayson Highlands State Park": https://weather.com/weather/tenday/l...AYSONHIV:13:US

Silverpalm if I get there, I’ll be stacking underquilts and will not have any extras as loaners maybe someone will loan you quilts to stack
Even a summer set of quilts can be stacked with your 20* and with a few hillbilly knots, large comforters-blankets and sleeping bags can be used to make a tropical paradise
If roads are bad Friday, I’m staying at The Medoc Mountain Hang hosted by Gunner and The Terminator and if weather—snow storms put us without a place—Gunner has invited All or Any to come to Medoc Mountain

I should have some quilts and/or insulated hammocks that you could hang under your UQ. How many and what type depends on what it takes to keep Freia warm in her "dog cave" which will hang under my hammock. It's under construction now. Last night was the first successful test (at 32°). That is, she didn't try to climb into my hammock at 2 am. Tonight we'll be all the way outside, so maybe 10 degrees colder. Sunday 1/20 will be the test - single digits expected here.

It looks like we have a meeting with our adoption agency that weekend. We're going to have a son! Have fun.

Hey@FireInMyBones That is great. I know it probably a long road but congrats!

that sure seems like a cold time.. the highs are drastically different from some other sites i have looked at. might have to bring the van just to have some space to carry extra winter stuff

Weather looks like the temps will stay below freezing.Wind SW 7-10 mph(that's the real Killer).Remember to bring something insulated to keep your water from freezing.Fresh water we can get at the Ranger station on the way in.I have a large pot with lid we can keep water in by the fire.

Will putting water in a cooler usually suffice?
