I might have just found a new hobby. My wife let me enter her domain (she has a degree in fashion design and merchandising) and was gracious enough to teach an old dog a new trick. I’ve wanted to try my hand at a RBTR underquilt for some time now and the recent Black Friday sale gave me the final push to do it.
I ordered an 3/4 underquilt kit with 5.0 insulation in black and gray and a front country quilt kit in robin’s egg blue and gray. These will be Christmas presents for my teenage son and college age daughter.
I tackled the underquilt first using the RBTR instructions with one small tweak. I added grosgrain channels on the sides to be a main suspension leaving the linelocs free to be a secondary. I also used the full length of fabric shipped to make the underquilt almost 70 inches long. I used the scraps to make a double-ended stuff sack. Not sure where she got it, but my wife had a Prevent Forest Fires shoe string which I used as the drawstring.
Not the most beautiful workmanship, but here are my results:
Length = 68 inches
Width = 45 inches
Weight = 24 ounces (complete and in stuff sack)
