Yeah, this time of year I'll normally go with the Superfly for the space savings and extra coverage. I've also really enjoyed your videos shug, helped me grow a ton as a backpacker. I'll check out your new vid in the am.

L to R, 11' HG Cuben Hex, no doors, no skins.
11' WB Super fly, stock bag, no skins.
    11' HG Winter Palace w/doors, w/cuben skin.
    12'x 12' modded HG Standard w/doors, w/mesh skins.

-- The Superfly is in it's stock bag and can be squished down even further. All others are non stock bags and thats about their packed size.

I've done a decent amount of summer hiking with the HG 11' DCF hex using a Zpacks Zero (36 liter) and have plenty of room. If it is stored in an outside pocket it takes up more room than I like, but inside the pack the weight of other items smooshes it down a good bit more when all the little pockets of air are evacuated. I used a mesh skin for a while but found it totally unnecessary, and it takes up more space (and adds weight!) in that snake configuration.

That’s more like my experience with my hg hex dcf tarp.

I was beginning to wonder what kind of bizzaro world I had stumbled into. I have no experience with silnylon tarps, but the small bulk and the 196g weight of my tarp is a part of the reason I was able to move into a smaller volume pack.

I don’t use sleeves. I fold it the long way, then roll it, flattening it as I do.

It’s several hundred miles away right now, so I can’t provide a comparison pic. But I’d say the final package is ~ 7x5x3”

Awesome...Thank you so much! It looks as though the HG hex is about the size of a nalgene? Although yours looks packed real tight and other pictures ive seen it takes up more space than one nalgene. Either way, helpful! Thank you

Im sure if I take the time to roll and pack the tarp carefully, I will be able to keep pack size down. My zpacks duplex surprised me with the amount of space it took up but I guess thats the nature of the DCF.

Im still on the fence about upgrading

So you can confirm the smaller pack size? One other member posted his picture and it looked bigger than that for sure. But I guess it all depends on how much care and time you take packing it away.
