    Take thermometer when hanging

Not sure this is actually weather protection, but does anyone take a digital thermometer with them when hanging? I'd like to find something to hang on my ridgeline but everything I've been able to find so far is upside down when hanging from a carabiner. So it's made to hang on a pack and flip up toward you so you can read it.

For example, this is what I don't want ... https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon....1RkJOnvbhL.jpg

    Any alternatives?

    Thanks in advance.

I use a system called Sensor Push - there's little tiles that you can buy off of Amazon that have an app that ties to your phone or you can monitor the tiles. $50 - has humidity tracks the data exports the data that's pretty nifty.

Is it for cold winter use? Do you need any fancy features besides hangability?

If this was directed at me Yes mine can be used all the way down to negative 20 I believe. I could be wrong on that though it may go down to -40.

    @ HandyRandy,

Not looking for anything extravagant. It's just my geeky side coming out and wanting to track temps while testing different set ups. Also wanting to track for historical purposes when we're out with the Troop.
I thought hanging from ridgeline would provide most accurate vs. trying to find the closest weatherstation that would report on the phone.

No, I was asking Vagabond to clarify so that he(she) could get a better answer.

Big question is whether or not you want a display while it's in use. If you only want historical data or to check after testing, then a data logger without a display works fine. I use a Senonics Minnow: http://www.senonics.com/minnow.html. Price varies between around $70 - $90 on Amazon, but after setting up on the PC it will log temps every interval (1/sec 1/min/ 1/hour etc) for weeks to months on a single replaceable battery. And it works down to very cold temps. I used it to record the temp inside the overcover for this test: https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...=1#post1587418. There are dozens of temperature loggers at all price ranges available on Amazon.

They make a Minnow 2 with Bluetooth so you can see the live display on your phone but I didn't need that. For instant readings in the hammock, I hang my hiking watch (a Casio G-Shock or Suunto Traverse) on the ridgeline and both have temperature displays. I can just tilt them in the dark and they will light up for me to see an instant temp.

Men hang out their signs indicative of their respective trades; shoe makers hang out a gigantic shoe; jewelers a monster watch, and the dentist hangs out a gold tooth; but up in the Mountains of New Hampshire, God Almighty has hung out a sign to show that there He makes men.

I use Acurite thermometers. I just take the suction cup off and use a mini biner. I also like there dual location one. Put the remote outside and keep the other under the TQ.

Oh wow. Thanks for the suggestions. Another rabbit hole of data to disappear into. I can hear my wife's eyes rolling around already!

I use the AccuRite and when you remove the suction cup you get a hole you can hang from. And it's right side up.
