Any South East Hammock Overlander Groups out there?

I am not in the SE, but some may call me an 'overlander'. Actually, my fondness of vehicle based exploration travel is what brought me to hammocks.

The more remote my trips became that harder it was to find a solid place to pitch a tent and the TrailNest concept helped persuade me into a hammock for the first time. My biggest concern about the TrailNest is that on top of the $500 contraption they sell, you still need a solid roof rack and ladder for the vehicle. Not only that, but I don't have the foggiest clue how you could successfully hang a tarp on the roof. Can you imagine the struggle getting up to pee in the middle of the night on a metal roof rack that is wet from dew?

The beauty of hammocking with vehicle based travel is that you ALWAYS have one hang point along with you; the vehicle. I've figured out how to safely hang from my Land Cruiser, Wrangler and Comanche pickup without needing to buy any extra gear. I can even hang my hammock under the awning I have mounted to my vehicle for the ultimate open view rain shelter.

I agree. I have no desire to hang on my roof.

Im an overlander. Im currently working on re-doing my shelter system to accommodate hammocks. Im working on a design for a hammock stand but Im not sure if it'll work until I get it finished and try it. My shelter will be a larger version of the awning room in the picture. Currently, the awning room on the side of my truck is 79"x79" and the one on the rear is 55"x79". Im going to make one that is 10' wide.

I’m an aspiring overlander in VA. I’ve gone on one trip with my xTerra. It’ll never make it Moab or the like, but it works for moderate stuff around here.

My hammock problem is they like to camp on balds for obvious reasons. It made for a short hike to find a couple trees. Worth it go course.

There is and I have a Tensa 4. I’m not the biggest fan of stands if i can avoid them though. Still...it’s better than the ground.

I have been away from this forum for a few weeks visiting the Overlanding Forums.

Still building my rig...I am close.

I need to get a Group 31 100AH battery and work out the cargo area.

I would like to see if I can get some folks to go Overlanding with Hammock sites on the agenda.

A friend of mine builds trailers. He just recently built on that holds 2 kayaks, storage for all fishing and camping gear, a small kitchen, and at my request added poles to hang 2 hammocks. I'll try to locate pictures.
