I want to try out an adjustable ridge line. Should I make it out of amsteel or will zing it work? Also which is better to make it like whoopie sling or OCR? Thanks

Both lines will work, but if you ever need it to function like a true structural ridgeline when trees are way too far apart, you should use amsteel. Having said that, many people use zing-it successfully. They just don't push it to its limits.
Amsteel is easier to splice. Whoopie or UCR - both good, your choice. Compromise with dynaglide? It's stronger than zing-it and easy to splice.
We build ours out of Dynaglide for the extra strength but small size. Build it like a whoopie and it will stay where you set it for length without any extra fiddling.

Dynaglide or Amsteel and use a stainless steel loop alien for foolproof adjustment, in freezing weather. No need for splicing or stickiness in freezing weather as with whoopies.
I've been using zingit on one hammock for a few seasons, and Jerry Brown hollow core spectra on the other hammock. No problems with either.
Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....

Do you use the adjustable ridgeline all the time? I am planning on making one and swapping it between hammocks. I then plan on making some fixed legnth ones when I find what works best.
Never change mine..
Admittedly, I don't adjust it often if at all on the Hyper D hammock and only occasionally on the Robic 1.2, mainly because the 1.2 is a bit lite for my ideal hammock and it requires a little fiddling to get a really comfortable lay. A trade-off for the sub 10 oz UL weight I suppose.

THis is a tarp ridgeline. I just mad a new one using Dutch's Reflect it with zing it for the prussics and a Namaclaw and trucker hitch loop to cinch it tight. I am using some small metal mitten hooks for the attachments. I recently heard about the Namaclaws and had to try the product. namagear.com is where to find the hardware.
I use a zing it whoopie for my hammock ridgeline set at 100 inches with room for adjustment either way. I have a 12 ft hammock and use the 83 percent rule to start off and adjust to comfort.
