    Misting?

I had an interesting experience this morning. There was no rain all night. I woke up and it was humid and foggy. Lots of condensation on both sides of my tarp. After I was up for a while, a heavy rainstorm came through. I felt mist while sitting in my hammock, and for a few seconds, I thought rain was misting through my tarp. After thinking on it for a moment, I'm willing to bet that the heavy rain was making the condensation on the underside of the tarp bead up and fly off. Anyone ever experience this? Any way to prevent this type of misting?

Very simple, use your towel to wipe down the underside of the tarp. It probably won't be completely dry, but the excess that would splatter will be gone.
If you prepare for failure you will probably succeed.

Good advice above. And you are correct that it was the internal condensation falling on you.

Is it a silnylon tarp? Silnylon will allow a mist to pass thru if the rain is hard enough. Some silnylon has a greater hydrostatic head than others ...

That's probably the best thing to do. I have a camp towel with me when I hike, so that's an easy fix. Thanks for the advice.

Yes, internal condensation getting knocked off by raindrops. Often blamed incorrectly on low hydrostatic head.
