Superior Insulated Hammock available at Dutchware Gear

I am proud to offer an insulated hammock by Superior Hammock. Superior has been making quality gear right here in the USA. I am really impressed with how well thought out and the quality of this hammock system. The stuff sack has several uses and can be used as a ridgeline organizer or a pillow. Also it has loops on it to lash to the outside of your pack. Lastly it has a pocket on the outside so you can keep your suspension separate. The hammock body is made from diamond weave nylon 1.6 on the inside and 1.0 on the outer layer along with the quilted part. It is rated for 30 degrees and I would guess the loft to be around 3 inches. It is rated for 400 pounds and weighs about 2 pounds 2 ounces. We have in stock and ready to ship two colors, Blue and burnt orange inside with a charcoal grey outer layer. They are only $349, both price and supplies are limited.

I am proud owner of 3 insulated hammocks. Yes, I have done the math and realize that 3 hammocks and 3 underquilts purchased separately would afford TWELVE COMBINATIONS and that’s before even thinking about stacking quilts. I regard it as a sign of the immaturity of the hammock market that it embraces such complexities with relish: we are nerds. When simple starts selling better than complex, even if more expensive: that will be progress.

How do these work as most hammock material stretches a bit when getting in. If the quilt is sewn to the hammock does the stitching not rip?

It is a double layer hammock and the quilt is sewn to the to outer layer which does not take near as much force. Then there are many pleats on the quilt part itself to keep everything lofted.

The snaps intrigue me. Here's an idea that just popped into my head after watching that: Would it be possible to design a hammock in such a way that it can use such a snapping system to create a pod? There are a couple of ways that might (or might not) work:

    1) Rather than a rectangular piece of fabric, the hammock body has a wing or wider side that can be folded over and snapped to form the pod, similar to what Dutch is doing in the video but all the way down.
    2) Make the hammock as shown but provide a separate piece that snaps or zips into place over the user, forming the pod.

There are all sorts of disadvantages to such a system, but I wonder if designing something like this with a foldable or snapable or zipped on covering would allow the hammock to retain its ability to host a diagonal lay, which seems to me to be the main disadvantage of pods, the loss of the preferred diagonal lay?
    "...the height of hammock snobbery!"
