Sealer for pull outs?

Which sealant should use? Just got my winter tarp from Dutch and need to seal the pull outs

Permatex . I seal the inside and the outside. Whatever you do, don’t use SilNet; makes a bloody mess!

Yeah Permatex flowable silicone is nice and easy to apply. Gets in the stitch holes well. I only ever seal the inside of my tarps but no harm in doing both sides.

Thanks, just picked some up. Says to set for 24hrs. Did you wait that long before you put the tarp away?

Yes or even longer because if it's still tacky it will stick to your tarp when you fold it. Some people put corn starch or baby powder on the areas treated to prevent this. I tried this once and some of it is still there so a low humidity warm place is your best bet and allow it to dry completely.

I think all the packaged silicone products are too thick for easy application. For years, I have used any good, 100 % silicone product thinned with mineral spirits to the point where it all runs off a stirring stick except for a thick film. Brush it on with a foam brush. If you don't use it within 15 minutes it will thicken up and have to be thinned again. I always put on 2 coats but that's just me and 1 coat should do it. I have used this method for 10 years on silnylon tents and tarps and for the last two on my silpoly tarps and it has never failed. In the tents I have done. I painted stripes of this sealer across the floor and it keeps an inflatable sleeping pad from sliding around. This would also likely work with a pad in a hammock if someone uses one and doesn't care care about having stripes of silicone across their hammock.

I just used silnet on a silnylon tarp. it wasn't too messy. I rubbed it in with my finger and wiped the excess off with a paper towel - this is the method recommended by warbonnet.

This is my method too. I have seen many tarps done with "raw" sealants and they don't look nearly as nice as this way, no matter how carefully applied. (Not picking at those who use this method)

When thinning yourself and you let it cure properly, it is nearly invisible and I can attest that it lasts and does not peal off over time. Oh and one proper coat will last quite awhile.
