You get access to post for sale items by being an active member here for 50 posts. This allows people time to get to know you.

You just need to chime in on some threads...add your two cents but you the mods frown on you just trying to rack up all 50 in a day so keep that in mind.

I think it's an incredibly smart policy... as well as the "bump" policy. Being new I appreciate the bit of peace of mind it gives when making purchases from forum members you have absolutely no frame of reference with. At least you can see their join dates and gauge how active they are in the forum community. It gives them a bit of a defacto credibility they're here to stay, care about their reputation, how they represent their items and are more likely to try to resolve any misunderstanding.

I had little hesitation in making the few purchases I have. Every transaction has gone like clock work and the gear has been as good, if not better, than the items were represented.

Not that it's been a "goal" of mine, but getting to 50 isn't exactly easy to do when you're not only new to the forum, but the hanging world in general with little to contribute. Then again... I'm still working on filling out just ONE basic setup so it's not as if I have any spare gear laying around I would want to sell "anyway"!

That has been my experience as well, having purchased one pack, one hammock and one quilt from members here. It's also probably a good idea to look back at the closed/sold threads to research the person from whom you're contemplating buying. Often you'll find several past sales and can then feel confident that they're going to fulfill yours.

EGAD! New members are the life blood of groups like this. Groups whither and die if new members do not join in.

When you are learning and experimenting is a great time to share your explorations.

To join the sellers group, after reaching 50 posts you follow the first few instructions here:
    https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/content.php/156

There really aren't any responsibilities to being a donating member - it's simply a $10 per year donation. It's not set to an automatic renewal or anything like that. Just like joining the forum as a normal member has certain benefits like being able to view photos, being a donating member allows access to a group of forums that are not strictly hammock related, for example those about backpacks, camp cookery & stoves, or off-topic discussions. The donations help the site owners offset the cost of maintaining the website.

Very true, but as Mark Twain once said:

This is an attempt to figure out how many posts I have by virtue of the info window to the left, I looked around for a total but could not find it and after being a member for 12 years and still a new member figured it must be a post count thing. Having some stuff to sell , including a snugfit, thought I would see what the rules were, Right off the bat I suspect I am not qualified due to the 50 post count. I pretty much come from the mark twain school of thought and prefer to keep my mouth shut.
