Also, I agree that it is probably just perception. By taking some measures to limit condensation(VBs and frost bibs) I often perceived that all my gear weighed the same the next morning(even inside a sock), with the one exception of the frost bib, which was quite wet. I did not bother to weigh the frost bib.
Having just hiked in a wet low 30s yesterday at 3.3 MPH X 30 minutes with too many layers on, I over heated and sweated a bit. I perceived that my VB cloths gained .6 oz/16.8 gm in moisture, while my down jacket and insulated pants gained exactly zero gms. But, I admit, I certainly did sweat. I perceived it and then I confirmed it by weight increase of VB.
