Also, I agree that it is probably just perception. By taking some measures to limit condensation(VBs and frost bibs) I often perceived that all my gear weighed the same the next morning(even inside a sock), with the one exception of the frost bib, which was quite wet. I did not bother to weigh the frost bib.

Having just hiked in a wet low 30s yesterday at 3.3 MPH X 30 minutes with too many layers on, I over heated and sweated a bit. I perceived that my VB cloths gained .6 oz/16.8 gm in moisture, while my down jacket and insulated pants gained exactly zero gms. But, I admit, I certainly did sweat. I perceived it and then I confirmed it by weight increase of VB.

I had to bail the other night because I over prepared for 27°

    Things I did wrong.

Added a rain jacket over my down vest at the foot end of my hammock.

Used my 5° quilt and quilt liner instead of my 25° quilt and quilt liner.

But what really messed me up was the chemical heat pack that i put inside.

I was burning up and covered in sweat with a single thermal layer on top and bottom.

It should have been a pleasant night had I stuck to my normal program.

Tonight I win all my money back.....it will get down to 28°

Yep, that rain jacket over your "down vest at the foot end of my hammock" was really asking for a bath and soaked down, at least if you did not use VB socks! Is that what happened? But even if you did not end up with massive condensation, sounds like you were bound to roast. But you will probably ace it tonight!
