Hennessy ropes with a valdotain tresse

I have never even tried the ’Hennessy lashing’ but I’ve been using the becket hitch before (which works fine). But I wanted something easier to adjust and since I was already familiar with some tree climbing stuff I decided to try how a valdotain tresse hitch would work. Valdotain tresse - if someone should not know - is a friction hitch mainly used by climbing arborists. It turned out working really well on the Hennessy ropes! I use 6 mm accessory cord and DMM XSRE mini carabiners.

Here’s a short video of my system:

I had never heard of it before, nor seen it in any videos or photos but that's a nifty looking hitch. Seems like you've got all the adjustment you'd ever need and it appears to be quick to set or quick to change. Nicely done.

Hennessy ropes with a valdotain tresse

Haapasaari, your Valdotain tresse is a wonderful climbers knot-hitch Very interesting! I love knots.
I’ve eliminated all friction knots—slip and grip knots for my hammock suspensions. I’m skeeerd my amsteel will turn black-char and be weakened, then I’d have to throw it out and get new amsteel.
Some of my suspensions used friction knots in the past—-no more for me.
I do use friction knots—slip and grip knots on tarp lines.
Maybe if I had some of your climbing rope—I’d want to try Valdotain tresse and variants—they are wonderful knots-hitches!

Lol...Read the title and thought 'tree climber'. Welcome to HF.

I've probably tried it as well as many other friction hitches with my Hitch Hiker and Rope Wrench.

I’m actually moving to Dutch’s Beetle Buckle system once my Chameleon arrives. Just thought I’d want to record this method before I sell my Hennessy. I like ropes, but they get bulky very fast.

That is a great looking friction knot. I have a HH and think I will give this a shot.
