5ft5 - Blackbird or Blackbird XLC?

Hello looking to upgrade from a starter hammock and I like the Blackbirds. Curious though about whether I should go for the 11 ft XLC or basic Blackbird? I live in the South, so a year round bugnet isn't something I would mind...

I'd probably get a session Wooki for it as well...

    Thoughts?

I'm 5'9" and had the standard since 2012. I just picked up another Blackbird with the new 1.6 single layer material. Very comfortable and still "too long" in a sense. The fabric from the foot box sort of hangs loose and actually covers my feet since I'm not tall enough to really "make use" the foot box.

Hang it right, get to know it and you'll love it!

Hadn't before thought about how the footbox might affect a purchase choice for relatively shorter folks. Hmmm. The newest XLC has so many nice upgrades. I haven't kept up on the 10' model to know if those changes carried over. The longer hammock typically allows a flatter lay, but at 5'5" the difference might not be noticeable enough to matter. The longer hammocks are a tad heavier and call for a larger tarp.

The Eldorado might be worth a look. A lot of flexibility if you want to add things down the road.

5'6" here. Purchased new XLC 1.7 SL this spring. Really like it. One of my 5'7" buddies purchased the XLC lightweight DL. I tried it out too. I preferred the DL because it was a little firmer, so if I had to do it over again, I would go with the DL but will stick with my SL. I weigh 130 pounds if that helps.

I am 5'5" and have the regular blackbird and the xlc. If the 10' blackbird had all the features of the xlc I would be completely happy with the length. 10' is just right for us short people.

I'm 6'2" and use several hammocks. My Blackbird is a 10 foot and I am comfortable. It may make a difference for my height, but I believe you will be fine in the ten footer.

Am I mistaken in believing the main difference is the removable bug net?

I'm 172cm short and sleep in all kinds of positions and forms in the XLC.

My first hang was in a Hennessy.

Regular Blackbird is 10' with attached bugnet and comes standard with left head lay. A right head lay cost a bit extra to get done.
Blackbird XLC is 11" and removable bugnet and you can set it to lay either way. Plus it has more options like topcover and underquilt protector.

If it were me, I'd get the BB and not the XLC. You aren't going to benefit from the length, in fact, it may make you less comfortable with all that 'extra' fabric. The 11 will certainly weigh more and take up more space. The 11 does have other features and will likely resell better than the 10.

I'm 6' and not as particular as some when it comes to getting comfortable in many different lengths of hammocks. I am currently down to one hammock and it's 11' but have used many hammocks shorter and enjoyed them just fine. At 5'5", an 11' seems silly, but that's me. HYOH.
