Custom Warbonnet Superfly/Mountainfly minus sewn pullouts weight

I am very interested in getting a winter tarp for my WB XLC. My question is since they allow custom tarps to be made has anyone decided against the pullouts to save weight and/or have a clean look on the sides without having to seam seal it? I am curious how much weight savings this would be and would it be worth it not having options for the pole-mode, etc...

The Superfly is wide enough that I actually use the pullouts (still not often) and the pole kit. Anything less and it doesn't matter to me. I have the Thunderfly and assure you I will never use the pullouts. I wish the custom order was around before I ordered mine. It doesn't really hurt anything; but that clean look would be nice.

I'll sometimes use a pullout to clip a door back, so that's another reason why I like them on the SF.

Get the side pull Tie outs. They don't add that much weight. I have them on all my 4S tarps and while I do not always need them, they are worth it when you do need to use them.

I only have one tarp with a pole mode and I only use it ( the pole mode part ) while car camping.

Cleaner appearance may be one thing, but as for weight, I can't see eliminating the panel pulls saving more than a few grams. I have a Cloudburst, not a Superfly or Mountainfly, but the panel pulls on the Cloudburst are nothing more than a few inches of grosgrain and some stitching.

I agree with OneClick that on a tarp with doors, the panel pulls are handy for tying back the doors, especially if you only want to tie back the doors at one end of the tarp.

Get the pull outs. Makes a big difference when dealing with a tight pitch or high wind.

Not needed on fair weather tarps but its **** handling on bad weather ones. Even just for door tie outs, it's worth it

Side pullouts are incredibly easy to add later.. Sew a small loop of grosgrain to a piece of silpoly or silnylonn fabric and bond them to the side panel.. no through stitching and no needle holes to seam seal.
Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....

With big flat sides on a tarps that are 5' wide on each side....there will be times you wish you had the pullouts to open it up in a stiff side wind condition.
In my opinion the weight of pullouts is not worth the worry. Make the weight up elsewhere in your pack.
Properly sealed they wont leak. Mine never have.
    My 3¢ worth.
