VIDEO - Baree to Bear Lakes in the Cabinet Mountains Wilderness

In this trip I had a grand plan in mind but once I made it to a beautiful mountain lake, I found it incredibly hard to leave ... so I didn't.

Timber and I wandered the southern end of the Cabinet Mountains Wilderness hitting both Barree Lake and Bear Lakes. There were 2 fires burning just to west of the wilderness and it made for some of the most smoky conditions that I have ever hiked in.

    Thanks for watching!

Cabinets look like some very nice country. Great to see your dog is back on the trail with you. I see you are savvy enough to keep you pepper spray where it should be, on you, instead of packed away.

The Cabinets are quite spectacular! The Cabinets are also know habitat for Black and Grizzly bears, so the spray stayed with me. We didn't see any bears on this trip, but the last time I was there, a sow and her cubs climbed up a tree so we could get by.

Really pretty area around the lake. I understand what you mean when sometimes you are not sure if you want to continue your plans for the trip or the trip at all. Thanks for sharing the video, going to add this location to my list of sites I want to visit.

Beautiful area and great video as usual. Sometimes it's good to just relax and enjoy the camp and forget about the plans. Thanks for taking the time to video this and share it with us. I love the scenery in that part of the country you are blessed to have this so close.

I did have a much larger loop in mind. The great thing is, next year I can go knock that out!

I am lucky to have this so close to me. I've made it my goal to try to see it all! Thanks for watching.

I love the Cabinet Mountains. My first backpacking trip when I was a kid was to Bramlet Lake which is just a few miles North of where your were. Although I never have hiked to those particular lakes this brought back some good memories.

    Thanks for sharing.

Love your trips and the lake looked great. Did you fish the lake as I saw some jumping in the video.

That is awesome! I plan on exploring the whole wilderness, so at some point I will get up there. The Cabinets are amazing.

No, I'm not a fisherman. The guy I camped with on the first night was fishing at Baree Lake, but I don't know how well he did.
