Winter hammock camping season is here and I would like to invite all who dare to brave the cold to join us for the 8th Annual Wisconsin Frozen Butt Hang. This event is family friendly best suited for those with winter camping experience.
The hang will be on a private 40 acre location in Waupaca WI where I teach survival and wilderness medicine courses. There are tons of good trees for hanging and lots of firewood. I'll have the parachute shelter set up over the camp fire area which is already set up for hanging pots. The hike in is very short, about 5 minutes, making this very accessible for both pulk sleds or packs. In addition, just over the property line from the site is the ice age trail if anyone wishes to hike in from north of the property
Trip Planning Spread Sheet HERE
We have some of the coldest winter hangs the Midwest has to offer. The 2018 WI FBH was 55 degrees colder than Minnesotas FBH and our current record is -41F during the 2016 event.
Not sure if your gear is up to par? There is a private overnight trip for beginners Dec 15th-16th at the same location. Please PM me for more details if you are interested.
The driveway is .7 miles long and you can park at the end near the building. Google maps and your GPS may show 6th Ave going through Hartman Creek State Park east of the property but this is not open to vehicles. If you try to get to the property from the east you will be in for a surprise. Just take 54 to County Road D and then take D south to 6th Ave. You can park on the driveway near the large garage before the house. This will be an obvious place to park when you see it. We can have parking off the driveway as well based on group size. The trail will be marked down to the site.
