I'm in the same situation Moray - bad back, side sleeper.. I did sleep one night in a GE hammock and didn't do great, but I haven't given up on it yet. However, that being said, I'm really leaning towards a RR as first hammock because I did try it briefly and both myself and my husband liked it immediately more than the GE (but haven't slept in one).

Good luck! I'll keep an eye out for you on your journey

If you can find one, go to a group hang and try everybody's stuff you can. There's This section of the forum to find hangs.

Thanks wbJohn, I will check out forum. I’m new to Southern California and really don’t know anyone here. I’m thinking that might be a good way to meet people and checkout some hammocks. By the way, I lived most of my life in Western Massachusetts. I’m lived in Granby and Agawam, not that far from your location. Go Red Sox!
    Thanks Ray

I'm mostly a side sleeper in bed but I can never get comfortable enough side sleeping in the RR. I sleep very comfortably on my back in the RR.
    Go Dodgers!

Carbon, you are one of the first side sleepers I’ve seen that has said they can’t side sleep in a RR. It’s good to know you can still get comfortable. It’s hard being a Sox fan in SoCal right now. What’s gonna happen when the Pats and Rams meet in the Super Bowl! Lol I think it’s going to be a great series no matter the outcome.

Hi all, I have finally joined the hanging community! I ordered a RR and a 13’ superfly today with the Black Friday sale. I’m looking forward to trying hammock camping. I haven’t purchased a ridge line yet and was hoping to get suggestions on the easiest/best system for a newbie like me. I know there are a lot of videos out there but I would like to hear what worked best when you were new to hanging. Thanks for all the help and suggestions I’ve received, they’ve really helped me.
