    Question Hammock tie out location?

I am making an 11' DIY hammock. I have the body made and I want to put tie outs on the ASYM. I looked at headchange4u's DIY HH tutorial. He advises that 13" off of center worked well in his clone. He cloned a 10' Hammock. Would it be beneficial to add some distance off of center for the tie outs? Keeping the same ratio, something like 14.25 would be scaled up measurement. Not sure if an inch and a quarter makes a big enough difference to worry over, but measure twice and cut once. Thanks!

I'd say clamp or pin your tie-outs and try them out first to get them right on point before committing to sewing.
    Then sew your loops.
    Carry forth.

Shug offers a good idea. In fact, you may even decide not to use them if you discover trip hazards when watering bushes at night. LOL

I'm planning on adding an asym bugnet, so I think tie outs are required. I agree I should mock it up first. I figured with 11' being a popular length I'd get to draw some experience from the forum members.

I would put one at the height of my head. That's where I'm closest to the net and need to keep the net away. To determine the right location, I would first use the hammock body a couple of nights and see where I want to lie. Then I'd mark the tie-out location and cut the net.

Another reason to put one at your head location is that it can double as an UQ hook location to bring the head end of the UQ right up to where it needs to be (not needed with a Wooki!) FWIW I also like UQ hooks (pack hooks) on both sides of the hammock in about 12-14" from each end.

If you're putting d-rings at the tie-out locations, put both a d-ring and a pack hook at that one spot.

For an 11’ hammock, I would recommend placing the tie-outs 23” off center for both the head and foot end. That’s what I did with my Chameleon clone, and it worked out perfectly.

I do this as well, and it virtually eliminates the hassle of adjusting my UQ.

This is actually what I am planning to do on a new Dutch net less I got. It seems to answer for most contingencies.

I've done a few DIY hammocks...

One is an 11' asym with fully removable bug net..
I put the grosgrain tie out points 46" from the head and foot end. The schematic doesn't show it, but there are four.. two head and two foot. On this hammock I added 3/8" tri-rings to which I tied a small diamond knot. The pullouts are micro cord with about 15" of 1/16 shock cord at the stake end, and are simply attached to the diamond knot with a girth hitch. There is a small continuous loop that floats on the micro cord connecting the tie out points and that is prussik'd to the same micro cord/shock cord pullout. Makes it easy to adjust length from in the hammock. On the last hammock I did, a Half Wit clone, I put two grosgrain loops at 46" and at 58" and connected the two loops with a short length of micro cord.. no hardware.
Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....

I recently put some on my 10’ hammock and I just laid in it and put a mark at my shoulder and my heel sewed them on and that seemed to do the trick.
    Good luck,
