If I left my hammock gear unattended, I’d worry the entire time. Even at home, I bring my gear inside when not using for hours, especially overnight, b/c it’s so dang humid.

Dutch had the answer for me: I use the Dutch Clips and it is very easy to take down every day.

I don’t trust people anymore. I feel suspicious keeping my stuff up when I go do my business

Unless I had friends nearby to keep an eye on it, I’m breaking camp. If it was a lonely trail and you are day hiking so that you will at least either meet the theif coming or going, then I think it’s less likely anyone will steal. Too high risk of getting caught.
But my stuff ain’t worth stealing, but that’s another subject LOL.

My luck some ranger would come along and just cut it all down. (In my best ranger voice) “Look at all this rope tied to trees!” (Takes our Swiss Army knife)

i only leave my gear hanging if it is secure in sector 7 G...behind a locked gate and a strong fence. Robert Frost was right about fences making good neighbors. That said, I also will bring gear in if not in use several days so as to avoid environmental wear and tear/exposure to the outdoors environment, etc....

As with everything, it depends where I am. I do a lot of trips in the Adirondack high peaks area and designated sites tend to fill up fast. Since most people end up setting up a base camp and do day hikes I end up leaving my hammock and tarp set up so I have a spot claimed. I end up taking my quilts with me because they're the more expensive items to replace (and I don't want to wait weeks for a replacement). The other reason I take my quilts is incase anything happens and I am stuck somewhere I will at least have something to keep me warm while awaiting rescue.
Having said that, my friends and I have had to help a stranger carry gear back to his car after a trip because someone stole his pack. It was when the Atmos AG was new and he had it outside his tent, and someone stole it during the night or early morning. We assumed it was probably a group who packed up and left early from a nearby campsite.
So now I keep everything near me during the night and I take whatever I am unwilling to part with whenever I leave my campsite.

In a State Park I would break camp every day and carry my gear with me, or stash in vehicle etc.

I have pretty much quit going into State & National parks because of all the people I encountered over the years that seem to be problematic for one reason or the other.

Social decline in general seems to be here to stay a while, sadly.

I have left my hammock gear fully deployed with tarp doors closed several times.

If I'm a little concerned, then I'll leave the hammock tarp deployed with closed doors. I'll leave the hammock in the vehicle.

If I'm very concerned, then I'll leave a cheap tarp deployed just high enough as chair shade or tarp camping. All hammock gear goes inside the vehicle.

It's essential to "occupy" the site so passerby's do not relax at your site if even for a moment. Everything else is in the vehicle to keep a clean and unobtrusive space for all to enjoy.

EDIT: Tip: Having two tarps/hammocks deployed gives the impression of having extra muscle should threatening situations lurk. Whoopie slings really ease hammock deployment since I'll leave the tree huggers.
