Lightbulb Hammock Hanging Competition? Competive Hanging?

I had a dumb idea. Sorry to waste your bandwidth.

Wow, you've certainly put some thought into this. I can think of any number of complicating factors, such as a points system that penalizes the participants for hang angles that deviate from 30 degrees, the goal being to get as close to 30 degrees as possible and stuff like that. You could have weight classes like boxing, using gear weights of course, not participant weights.

One downside I see is the amount of time and space it would require to actually run the competition. If everyone is using the same two trees, then you have to run competitors consecutively and time them, wait for them to break down and get out of the way for the next person. If you run competitors simultaneously, then they're spread out and it's harder to see and time them all. Maybe have a designated spot and one timer. Competitors schedule their "match" with the results announced at the end of the hang and have a running scoreboard like in golf so that there's some way to track who's done and who's still to come.

An interesting idea for sure and fun to think about. Not sure I'd actually enter such a competition, but I might watch one, especially if someone compiled a video of the highlights.

    Hammock Hanging Competition? Competive Hanging?

A faster setup will help me. Slow slow me.
Competitions for fast rig setup are entertaining and provide some useful information and gear innovation.
Hardware at tree will increase speed. Dutch clips or carabiners.
Tarp can be set up diamond style with only two stakes or attachment to vegetation.
If a bugnet is used—built in bugnet is faster than separate bugnet.
If underquilt is used, a built in sewn on underquilt would be faster than separate underquilt.
    Hardware-bling will speed tarp setup.
Possibly a single attachment to tree that supports both hammock and tarp can possibly cut a few seconds.
And someone might figure how to have entire rig completely setup on a folded tensahedron stand, unfold and attach one or two stakes.
A smaller rig will add to your speed.
If all guy lines and suspension stay attached to hammock and tarp, that’s a plus. Not only can you skip assembly, also you don’t have to look for small parts.
Fastest rig would probably be all in one all completely together and only fasten one time to each tree.
Mainly practice practice practice will make you faster.
I can only dream of being fastest hammock rigger, my gear is not the best for racing. My gear is set for comfort. Sure we compare ourselves with our friends. Your best test on fast rigging is:
Arriving at campsite tired and in dark with rainfall just starting and increasing in intensity.

I say race on. You might have fun and you might discover new and old innovations that can benefit some other hammockers.

Hammocks are for relaxation and camping, not competing. HYOH and enjoy the journey.

I’m of same mindset. But if any of the many ways of being faster makes “ease of use” can make setup less time consuming...then some might make use of that hardware or technique.
I don’t use hardware and don’t have integrated bugnet or integrated underquilt. And my rig is oversize. No wins for me. I try to think of ways to be more efficient during setup.
Still I think competition to have fastest rig setup, or lightest pack can lead to innovations that can lead to better gear available to us all.
    I know you right!

    Definitely agree with this sentiment.

But if the OP insists, maybe he could have a Hammock Olympics!

I agree. The last thing I want to do is rush when I'm out enjoying my free relaxing time

Not all setups are the same so there's no benchmark to keep it fair.

When I'm out in the woods, I enjoy the time I spend getting unpacked and setup, unless it's pouring rain, then all bets are off.

I hope the OP reports back on the results of the competition and maybe some details about a 200 person hang. That didn't sound right but you get the point.
