    Hello from Finland

    Good day everybody,

I just found out the bliss of hanging this year. We had such a long heat wave here this summer that I just had to come up with something other than sweating inside the house all night! So the first solution was to dig out my old tent from the basement. It worked alright, but wasn’t too comfortable + it ruined the lawn.

Then I saw someone post pictures of a Tentsile tree tent and I just had to give it a go! I bought a Connect tent and love it! But it’s really a bit too heavy for backpacking or bikepacking (I’m an avid mountainbiker) so I looked for a lighter alternative. I found myself a second hand Hennessy Explorer Deluxe Zip and been sleeping in it for about ten nights now (mostly in my backyard) and find it really comfortable. I have the SuperShelter, but I’m not the biggest fan of it, so I placed an order for a HG Incubator (Econ).

This forum has been a great source of information, along with Shug’s YouTube channel and Derek Hansen’s book, which I read in two nights! I have tried all kinds of configurations for my tarps, tie-outs and suspensions and have come up with some of my own, which I may post at some point (I’m also a knot freak ).

    Thank you and hang good!

    Timo

Haapasaari, welcome from across pond. Be extra careful with any rig that has a flat angle of hang.
Some trees have fallen on hammock campers, and contributing factor might have been flat angle of hang on suspensions?
You are off to a flying start!

Thanks! I only just noticed your reply. Yes, that is a big concern with this kind of shelters. I do rigging at work (film lighting) and I’m very aware with the math involved. The forces can get quite substantial very quickly! First nights I didn’t sleep too well because of this.

And a belated welcome to the forums. I've already seen your post on the unique lashing you use with your Hennessy. And if you're a knot freak, you'll find a few kindred spirits here (not me but there are some).
    Cheers.

Thank you sir! I am quite a knot aficionado, but I also like all kind of small doohickies. I love this hammocking thing because everyone has their own special way to hang stuff from the trees and you always learn something new!

It’s fascinating how one can learn stuff from people living on the opposite side of the world! I like this internetz.
