    Synthetic quilts

I hear about how much less compressible synthetic insulation is, but I don’t think I’ve seen volumes reported. So, do you have a synthetic if quilt? What is the packed volume? I’d be interested in top and bottom quilts, as well as Apex or other types.

I have 5.0 Apex TQ and UQ. They pack to maybe 10-20%larger than my down equivalent quilts. I will say I go for synthetic more often due to the damp humid climate I in.

My One Tigris camping blanket/top quilt packs (when compressed) to just a tad over the volume of a 64 oz. growler.

*no quilts were harmed in the making of this photo

If I've done it correctly, the attached photo shows my 3-season AHE Jarbidge in the stuff sack provided by the maker. It can, of course, be compressed further but that's the size in that specific stuff sack. The ruler in front is six inches for reference.

That’s not bad. So instead of 5L it would be maybe 6L.

Again, not nearly the horror I’ve read about. Maybe 6L there.

I also have the 3-season AHE Jarbidge and guess that it packs 10-15% larger but worth it IMO. Just don't trust down when caught out for 2-3 days in the rain.

I would not measure based on stuff bag size. I think the previously mentioned 10-20% is about right. I pack my quilts in the bottom of my pack and let them fill in the space. My only frame of reference would be that I have a zero down 7/8 quilt and a Jarbridge, a 2/3 size that is rated to 25. I would say they both pack about the same. The down quilt is slightly more compressible in a compression sack, but those hard sacks are a PITA the pack efficiently. YMMV.

The difference becomes more pronounced as you go lower in temp too.
My 40 degree 800 fill quilt packs to about the same size as my 50 degree syn quilt without pushing too hard. The synthetic is near half the weight though!

You mean 'twice' instead of 'half' ??
