16x10 is a bit tight? Really
I've now used my Mier 10x16 for about 100 days in all sorts of weather. It is awesome if weight isn't an issue.
I've used it as a flat canopy over camp with misters set up around it in the summer and it collected several gallons of water. It handled that load fine. I've had it in 100+ °F heat and intense sun and it has only slightly faded compared to the storage sack. I've had frost on it. I've used it in very high winds. There is no damage to the tarp anywhere!
It is an amazing tarp for car camping. It's a great basecamp shelter. The only drawback is the weight, but that weight comes with durability that can't be beat.
I haven't had an actual snowload on it yet, but I'm certain it would work just fine if pitched as an A-frame over my hammock.
The 10x16 can be setup to allow a great space next to the foot or head end that can be used as a 'kitchen area.' The 10x16 also has the ability to be pitched on a 12 foot ridgeline by utilizing a tieout on the peak that isn't on the end. This ability is helpful when tree spacing is tight or when it needs to be pitched low in cold weather. The 16 foot ridge requires a higher setup to accommodate hammock suspension. Doors can be closed on both ends in all configurations I use.
I've even rigged up an internal pole mod using some tent poles I had laying around.
If you're on a budget and want something very durable, and relatively lightweight I would recommend this all day.
It is well worth every penny. It has cost me about 40¢ a night so far and it gets cheaper by the day! If you're interested and are just worried that it may be trash that will fall apart, I can assure you that it is very well made. It's one of those, "is it too good to be true" products. It is truly very good. I can't say enough good things about it. The only negative thing is the weight, but you can read 'weight' as 'durability' if you choose to and then there are absolutely no drawbacks to this tarp.
Mosquitos suck and the wind blows!
I just picked up a cheap tarp by a company called Gold Armour on Amazon after I messed up my Black Friday Warbonnet order and missed getting my Superfly. It was $32 (which works out to something like $1 per tie-out loop on it) and comes with carry bag, stakes, lines and tensioners which I imagine I will want to replace immediately. But, until I can save up some more for a proper Dutch/Warbonnet/UGQ/Simply Light/etc. winter tarp.
