    West Coast Trail 2018

Just completed my 5 day solo hike of the WCT on Vancouver Island, BC, Canada.

I started Sept 23 to the 28th and I managed to hang all five nights.

The West Coast Trail, originally called the Dominion Lifesaving Trail, is a 75 km (47 mi),or 77 km if you stay at the Thrasher Cove campsite, backpacking trail following the southwestern edge of Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. It was built in 1907 to facilitate the rescue of shipwrecked survivors along the coast, part of the treacherous Graveyard of the Pacific. It is now part of the Pacific Rim National Park and is often rated by hiking guides as one of the world's top hiking trails.
    It's tough and breathtaking!

Unfortunately my SD card had corrupted so I lost most of my pictures....

I may never actually set foot there & its one of several trails in the area that I've researched & put on the bucket list...love the history behind it.

Sorry to hear you lost your pics but I'm sure the trip left you with some great memories.

Mountain views are good for the soul....& getting to them is good for my waistline.

I started this trip in Kingston, Ontario, with a plane ride from K town to Toronto then Toronto to Victoria on Sat Sept 22.

I was lucky enough to have a long lost friend (from elementary school that I hadn't seen in 35 yrs) offer his place for me to stay. He even had a friend, Daryl, pick me up at the airport and drop me at MEC so I could get some stove fuel for the trip!

It was a short walk from MEC to Mark's apartment.
Spent the night catching up on 35 yrs and final packing for the hike.

Mark and I sitting down. Daryl standing.

Fantastic! I like the west coast trails, and try to hike one or 2 each summer as beach hikes are my favorite thing to do besides biking around this country.

Did use a hammock on the WCT? Wondering as beach side forests are so dense on the coast of BC. I've used mine only for solo motorcycle travel.

This sounds great. I may be in the area next year in late summer. Maybe there will be time for a trip like this to the "Graveyard of the Pacific".
