    Gear Hammock hang location?

    Hi,

Where do you hang your gear hammock? Under the main hammock, UQ and bug net or next to your hammock for easy access?

I have a DIY 12 foot hammock with a Fronkey bug net. I'm leaning toward under it all but haven't tried it out yet.

    Thanks in advance.

    Lately... in my closet.

I haven't used my kitsapcowboy War Bag yet. I think the best place for it will be below my UQ. I bet anything if I try to hang it off to the side, I'll feel it there and be annoyed by it. So I'll need to make sure I hang my hammock high enough to clear it so it doesn't compress my UQ or drag on the ground.

from the foot end of the gathered end hammock to about 1/3 of the way out the ridgeline, using a prusik there to tension as needed.

How high would you say your hammock bottom is above the ground in this photo? Looks to be 3'. Would you hang this high if you didn't have a gear hammock?

was probably in the 26"ish range, when sitting i have about 4 inches or so from my dangling feet to the ground. I would definitely be lower without the gear hammock. I tried hanging it to the side from the pullout up to the end but didn't like the pull it had on the side when loaded.

Yeah. I think once I start using mine, I'll have to go higher with the hammock... which means higher with the tarp...

I do this when the weather is blowing rain. Even though I'm 6'5", 250, I find that I still have plenty of room in the hammock, even with that thing strung up above me. It's the ultimate RL organizer.

If the weather is nicer, or even if it's raining, but without wind, I hang it between the foot end of my suspension and my foot side tie-out.

The thing that always seems to bother me when I've hung it below my UQ is that the gear hammock suspension always seems to rub up against my hammock when I'm laying in it, and it annoys me. I've never found that sweet spot where the gear hammock suspension doesn't impact me. I should note that I toss, turn, and otherwise move about in my hammock quite a bit at night, and I've always been a little jelly of those of you who lay down on your back in the late evening, then just wake up in the morning in the same position.

And I won't be able to stop thinking about how I used the word "seems" twice in one sentence. But I'm not changing it!

I don't use mine often, but when I do I hang one end from the hammock suspension near the tree, or even from the tree, and stake the other end to the ground just to the side of my hammock on the head end. Mine is zippered, so more of a large pouch than a traditional hanging gear hammock, so that setup may not work for all types of gear hammocks.
