Sept 2018 - Child killed in hammock accident!

Please be sure you check the trees you attach your hammock to. This child lived less than 15 miles from me.

Just awful! For that other kid being right there too...it's gotta be hard to come back from something like this at that age.

I feel for the responsible party that hung the hammock. They will live with this from now on.

This is heartbreaking. Wasn't there a similar incident not all that long ago? Trees are dangerous rascals. If you hike and camp, you are always under or near them, oft times even in a tent. Of course, in a hammock,we add to the chance of a tree just falling over or dropping large branches, the chance of pulling one over on us.

At least a few in the last year it seems.

They didn't go into details, but there's always the chance this was a perfectly "healthy looking" tree. Sometimes you just don't know what tress are going to do. I think this is the case more times than you would think. Or the news reporting was a little weak (you don't say!!). Could have been something like a branch that came down, a weak spot where it connected and not the actual tree, but that's how it was reported.

This is indeed tragic news. I echo what others have said about wishing the news team told more details of this accident and how it could have been avoided unless is was a freak accident. Prayers for the families of this accident.
