    MO/KS area

It doesn't look like there are many (any?) group hangs for the Missouri/Kansas area. Is that not "a thing" here? If not, where do locals usually go for a weekend get-away (translates: not so far as to be a big commitment where travel time takes up too much could-be-camping time)?

Most I've seen have been on the St Louis side. I have been too busy with my kids to attend any. I would love to though

On the Kansas side, if I am looking for a quick getaway, I stop by a state fishing lake and set up for the night.

Missouri has many more opportunities but I have not yet taken advantage of them.

My next hang will be at a Girlscout Zombie Campout. I'll be hanging over in the little man village with the other dad types that are attending. Hopefully be a couple good trees or I may have a LONG weekend. Have to get someone to drive by my little backpacking tent and give them the hammock or something.

Most of the area reservoirs have decent options in Kansas , it depends what area your in I suppose. Clinton lake near Lawrence is a good spot, look for “Woodridge” primitive camping & hiking trail.

I now have this mental image of a horde of zombie Girl Scouts laying waste to Kansas City. Oh, the horror!

Woodridge is one of my favorite spots. I wish there were more trails like it in the area.

Elk River Trail in Southeast Kansas is wonderful, I've heard. The Ozark Trail in South Central Missouri looks nice, also.

Southern MO and NW Arkansas have lots to offer if you don’t mind a little drive from the KC area. I took my middle daughter on a trip last fall to “hemmed in hollow” that is part of the buffalo river trail system, very nice area!

I am in SW MO and generally have to drive a ways for any real good hiking/camping. Devils Den in NW AR is great, and so is the Wilderness Trail at Meramec State Park. Bell Mountain is a nice little getaway too.
