Have you made or seen a portable multi-hammock stand?

I started hammock camping when my oldest son joined boy scouts. For most of the past 10 years, whenever, I went along on the monthly scout camping trip, I had my choice of hanging spots. Recently however, many of the scouts and quite a few of the parents have joined the ranks of hammock campers. It has gotten to the point when the number of hammocks often outnumber the available good hanging spots.

I am thinking of creating a portable hammock stand with a central post multiple spoke type design. If I could get 5-6 scouts hanging on a stand, the trees would be free for me. Anyone here built something like this? Anyone have a better plan?

Depends how portable. Multiples of single-hammock portable stands can work, a single pole with 2 strong ground anchors (per side) being the simplest. If you have only one strong tree, many can hang off it daisy style this way.

A tensahedron's 4 poles can add 3 more to hold 2 hammocks. Using the commercial Tensa4's poles, that's under 20lbs and packs tiny. Adding only 2 more (9 total) can hold 3, with a hexagonal perimeter and Y junction in the middle, requiring only 3 guylines. We refer to these exotics as Tensa7 and Tensa9, which may or may not become product offerings pending more testing.

OCDave I'm loving making Tensahedron stands out of 8' pioneering poles (or the equivalent) plus lashings on Scout campouts. I've got a 3-scout, 9 pole stand in mind that's tensahedron based but haven't tried it yet. Let me find the post for that. Also working on a tarp concept for it that's pretty cool but do not have drawings for that.

OK found the thread, here are some items:

HOWEVER, I want to attempt a 9-pole, 3-hammock "tri-tensahedron" (basically three full tensahedrons, but 3 poles do double-duty & come together in the center on the ground)

I've only gotten as far as to do some math, which tells me it should work with:

• 7.5' poles (leaving room on 8' poles for lashing)
• 4 tripod lashings, 3 bipod (or diagonal or square) lashings
• up to 11' hammock
• 18" hang height
• 10.4' "tarp" ridgeline
• 6' "baseline" (along the ground)
• 30 degree hang angle results, and that vector should be co-planar with the two nearest poles
• Also, as viewed from above, the pole angles with each other will all be 120 or 60 degrees (kind of goes without saying)

Obtaining a bit more time, and 3 more poles, are the only things standing in my way.

Well-executed by one of the Tensa partners using Tensa4 poles:

It seems to work. Hammocks are different lengths and the poles are slightly different lengths. I have not yet tried to optimize the hang on each hammock, but have hung in each individually. Since it is symmetrical, hammocks and poles of the same length are probably desired.

Since a strut holds 2 people I would decrease the safe load by 1/2 of a single stand.

Right now I have 2"x3"x8' studs drilled with 5 mm polyester accessory cord on eacd so that the equilateral triangle is locked in for each. More polyester accessory cord for keeping the poles up.

I was trying to use 3/8 x 12" galvanized spikes to secure the corners however, we experienced soaking rains all day yesterday so the spikes, doubled and criss-crossed held for awhile then pulled up a plate sized chunk of my lawn. I have just a few hours before we leave so, will probably do a stakes behind stakes type of solution. (I can't bring myself to use 3' rebar)
