Question If you had a week off where would you hike before December 31st?

I have accumulated vacation and I'm interested in going for a hike and hang somewhere nice before December 31st this year. I'm willing to take a plane to some places (budget permitting).

What is a good fall or winter hammock compatible hike you would recommend?

I'd hike the pinhoti trail as far as I could, but it's close to me. I wouldn't complete all 300+ miles, but I'd make a dent in it.

Depending on how quick you can go, I would recommend anywhere on the Pacific Crest Trail from Northern California to as far north as you can make it on the trail. This is some of the most beautiful area I've ever seen in videos but can get very cold the later in the year. The same goes for the CDT as long as you do it on the northern 1/3 of the trail.

Vermont Long Trail. Not to far from Montreal.
    Challenging trail.
Hickery and I did some of it last year. Started at Canadian end. Early October.

Ditto the Long trail in VT. Also tons of hikes in New Hampshire White Mountains The Mahoosuc area is nice, So is the Pilot range area, also not as many people if any up there. Pemi Wilderness area is nice but more people. I love Maine, and there are many hikes up there along the AT.

In the winter, for me, would be Big Bend National Park. Lots of 4 wheel trails, lots of hiking, desert, mountains and the Rio Grand; not much in the way of traditional fall colors, but a great desert hike.

    Some maps for your perusal...
