If time permits, can you show us your DIY front racks?

Also, I see lots of people using those saddle bags. Do you like those? I use a rear rack which (besides holding stuff) solves several unrelated problems for me.

    Enjoy the vacation!

Looks like you'll be hitting Missouri at a nice time. This week is all heat and humidity and the **** mosquitoes are out in full force. We'll have a large cool down this weekend and the extended forecast looks like perfect temps.

Really neat to see you guys traveling through the state. Never thought Dutch would be in Missouri. There are definitely some beautiful parts along the Katy trail you'll see.

As you're passing the trail through Boonville MO, look up at the casino you'll pass and both you and Adam can smile. There have been a couple of incubators pass through it and Dutchware seems to discretely ship one to two packages every month there for me. Catch the trail there at the right time and I'd gladly buy you both a cheeseburger and a beer..
and if you encounter some odd gear failure or need something replaced, I could always leave something where you'd be able to get access to it.

Glad you made the jump since you've been planning for quite a while....almost....2 weeks

After reading your AT Trail Journal I can't wait to see all the vids for this trip. Have a blast and get a few of those cheeseburgers.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

You need to bike out to San Francisco...Those hills would really provide a great work out, and you could take the bike and ride down the worlds most crooked street, Lombard Street! The views from up there are fantastic when the fog isn't too thick. Sep-Nov is stellar weather in the Bay Area. The real draw to visit there, at least for me, was to visit the Muir Woods National Monument across the Golden Gate Bridge in Marin County.

I guess I'm surprised to not see a longer wheel-based touring bike with skinnier tires for that kind of distance(?)

I'm sure such a product would be a tad outside of most people's price range!

I built out this bike as a gravel bike. So far though I have been on all asphalt. We are about to hit more gravel over the next week. It isn't light by any means, but it sure is a fun ride.
