Long time lurker, new member and MYOG-er from Ohio!

    Hey Friends!

Ive been in and out of HF for the past two years simply because I spend way too much of my time online looking at gear, gear configurations, ultralight hacks, etc. Watched a lot of Shug on Youtube (hey, thanks for helping me hammock thrive in the cold!), scoured reddit, etc. Traded in my ENO for a custom dream hammock and felt like I was living in luxury. Finally. After years of sleeping uncomfortably like a banana in the woods. I hope to also build myself an ultralight backpacking alternative to the Dream pretty soon!

Anyhow, lately I've graduated into experimentation with making my own gear. I recently finished a 1.1 silnylon tarp and am building my boyfriend his first hammock as we speak (and using it as an opportunity to test out the 3" Cat Curves on the ends that XTrekker and a few others are using to reduce calf ridge! Will update!)

I'm excited to actually start talking instead of just lurking in these forums - especially MYOG-related threads!

    What's your latest project?

Welcome from way down South. Glad you decided to make it official.

I hope you have fixed that banana hang. I hurt just thinking about it.

MYOG/DIY is the way to go for me as well. I save money only because My time(not considered in price) making the gear would otherwise be spent doing something foolish or expensive.

Made my wife several quilts and she loves them all. Made my daughter hammock and UQ. She melts into it and loves it.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

Thanks! I shudder thinking about my early days of hammocking! I knew nothing about ridgelines or sag, so I strung up my eno as taught as I could and laid straight down the middle. Froze my bum in the middle of summers, got rained on due to improperly hung tarps... but despite all that I stuck with it because I am a chronic insomniac and I cant sleep in a tent.

All your MYOG projects sound great, and Im right there with you on the time spent keeping me out of trouble, lol!

Welcome from the rainy mid-atlantic! Lots of like-minded DIY folks here. You are among friends.
    I sew things on youtube.
I don’t sew on commission, so please don’t ask. Thanks.

Welcome! Glad to have you here, and it sounds like you are already an accomplished DIYer! I have made several hammocks, all comfy and functional,( but I must admit that I prefer my Dutchware Chameleon over all of them). I've made a few tarps, some tarp beaks, Costco down underquilt, fronkey net and other nets, lazy slug tube, silnylon poncho, gators, etc, etc, etc. For me, the DIY bug comes and goes, and at the moment I am thinking about modifying my Dutchware Zenon Hex tarp by sewing some doors on it. It is quite a fun hobby making and testing gear!!!
