    WBRR - Which Pad

Seriously considering a WB Ridgerunner. I'm a side sleeper. Hoping the WBRR will do the trick. Will be doing a lot of fall and spring camping and plan to get the double layer to add a pad. Which pads are you guys finding work the best & what size? thanks!

I tried a pad but prefer an underquilt. Any closed cell foam pad works. Size can vary, shorter if you want to save weight. I also used an insulated inflatable. Don't over inflate or your center of gravity is raise and it gets tippy. But the cushion is nice. Again, for bulk weight savings, I haven't been using the inflatable pad.

any pad will about fit it....you just need to find the pad that suits you as well as the r-value insulation level.

I would highly recommend an under quilt for warmth and comfort as well. Pads work but they move and can caused condensation which isn't something you want if you are attempting to stay warm.

I'm gonna "parrot" what the others have stated and say a UQ is probably the best option. But if a pad is what your looking for then I will suggest the tried and true Thermorest Neo Air Xlight.
Good R value for spring through fall.

Inflate to around a third to maybe half or so, very comfy.

Thanks for the feedback! I have a REI AirRail, an old Thermarest and a cheapo from WalMart....first 2 on the heavy side but I will give them a try. Hope to avoid any temps lower than mid 40s at night and can always add an UQ later.

With the double layer RR, could you slip a lightweight down banket between the two layers and get additional insulation?

Any down will most likely be compressed and loose any insulation value. Need to stay lofted.

Whatever pad you go with I’d recommend at least 25” wide. Length would depend on how tall you are.

Most everything has been touched on, but I will add from experience that since you are a side sleeper then i HIGHLY recommend a thick pad of at east 2" so that you can let the loft of the pad have some give for your body curves. But everyone is different and like different things. You will just have to experiment to see what works best for you. I would buy it then try out what you have to get an idea for what may be comfortable for you.

A pad placed between the layers of your hammock will not likely move out of place. I use a Klymit insulated V-Luxe. It is wide and long and completely fills the pocket between the layers of the RR. For me it works better and is more comfortable than an UQ. It is a little heavier than an UQ but it packs very small. Also, the design practically eliminates condensation issues.
