Wyoming > Wind River Range and Medicine Bow peak, July 2018

Spent a week in Wyoming's Wind River Range backpacking and hammocking. Mosquitoes were terrible and cut one hike off short. But armed with mosquito ammo I returned and had a better time.

I found plenty of trees to hang. Camping at Island Lake was incredible. Hope to return and explore some more.

There are five videos. This is part one.

I love all that country, and your video makes me want to get back out there. My first disastrous night in a hammock was in an HH with Super Shelter at Dad's Lake about 10,000 ft., 22F about the 1st of Sept 2006. I like to go in Sept, the bugs are mostly gone. But I think I could stand to go in June/July with Permethrin treated clothes and gear plus Picaridin for my exposed skin. Thanks for the report! ( BTW, we got over a foot of snow and 24F low on June 27, 1985! )

It’s a magical place BillyBob. Once I had proper treated clothing and a thermacell the bugs were manageable. But September with some elk bugling would be incredible.

Just got back a 10 days ago from doing a 70ish mile loop from Elk Hart Park to Green River then Titcomb Basin and back out again. End of August was a great time for no bugs...there were a few skeeters but nothing worth carrying bug spray for. One of the guys I hiked with turned around and went back in for another 10 days to do Skurka's Wind River High Route...said it was brutal.

Such an amazing place to backpack...loved every minute of being in there, both this year and last year.

I think I could hike there for the rest of my life and never get bored.

    Bugs and all.

I definitely enjoyed the decade I spent in Lander and Moran with the Winds for a back yard. Exceptionally nice country!
