Hi
thanks for letting me into your group. I discovered the bliss and comfort of hanging about 7 years ago.
I'm a scout leader and I have always had a passion for camping.
I broke his back many years ago falling from a horse. I had to learn to walk, cycle & ski from scratch again having suffered complete paralysis of my left side. It took only 10 weeks for the bones to mend and the nerves to reconnect, but I never quite got over the pain and stiffness. Getting down to the ground and standing again still is a pain.
I bought a Hammock and tarp from DD Hammocks and have never looked back. I average about 30 nights a year in my hammock. My record was 45! Rain, Storm, snow and starry nights, I'll be the one in the hammock!
Since my conversion, I have been on a one man hammock evangelist. To date I have converted about one third of my scout district into regular hangers (thats about 300 people).
This term I am hoping to lead a project for the explorer scouts (14-18 year olds) to make their own survival kits, including knife making, fire lighting and making hammocks (quite a challenge as I have only just taught myself how to use a sewing machine).
I really like the look of the Amok right angled hammock, but I spend too much time scouting to be able to afford one!
My daughter will be attending the world scout jamboree in West Virginia next summer. She'll be bringing her hammock in the hope she can hang rather than camp.
Oh, I used to live in NJ as a kid and even met your president Mr Nixon. Spent the summer on Girl scout camp as my step mother was the camp nurse.
Thats my intro, always happy to answer any further questions
Paul
