I have used all kinds of different cinch buckles, and I like the Warbonnet cinch buckles and the Dutch Beetle Buckles best. Due to the slim opening, I'd say that the Beetle Buckles prevent the straps turning most effectively. But with any kind of suspension you need to use at least some care. A daisy chaing / biner suspension probably would be the most idiot proof suspension, though. Other than turning the biner sideways or not hooking it into the loops completely, I don't know what could be done wrong.

I agree. My Big Mamma Mayan hammock, and I do mean its big. Usually stays up on the porch in the summer. I use a daisy chain and biner setup with it. Other than knotted rope its as easy as it gets.

I ordered some Beetle Buckles from Dutch and will try them. I'm new to camping hammocks so I'm learning and building gear as I go.

And that's exactly what we could expect an idiot to do!

That's why I wrote "the most idiot proof suspension" There simply is no suspension that is 100% fool proof.

Yup. I learned it the hardway with a set of buckles and straps I bought from Dutch. I've switched to beetle buckles.

The problem with trying to make something "idiot proof" is that idiots are so ingenious!
There are two kinds of people in this world. Those that can extrapolate from incomplete data.

    AHHHH !

Just installed my new Amsteel 7/64 CL's and Beetle Buckles tonight. Just in time to sleep on the porch and watch Florence roll in.
What an improvement over the cinch buckles in my opinion. Then again my cinch buckles were cheap aluminum, not to mention heavy.

Short answer is yes. It is a problem and you do have to be mindful that the straps are correct. Every time I have fallen it has been because of the straps. Not the straps themselves, my lack of attention to them. I use the stiffer 1500lb straps from RSBTR and don't have any issues.
I would rather be in the woods... my dog would rather be in the pool. My wife thinks we are both nuts.

Gotta say I love the Dutchware beetle buckles. Best hardware buckle for suspensions IMHO. No fraying, light and durable, plus you can hang two hammocks from same two trees with spreader bar...lovin' it. Marked improvement over the cinch bugs. Only thing is, these buckles wont work with the uhmwpe straps due to the slipperiness of said material. For that, use the J Bend or the Marlin Spike Hitch.
