Depends on where we are setting up camp. Often the humidity starts coming way before the sun begins its descent so I put up the tarp.

If we are in an arid region, hammock then tarp if I think it might be needed.

When I first started camping I was rained out a few times so I learned to fix my shelter first then take care of the less important comforts.

Hammock, then tarp (unless it is raining).

with the draumr, I like hanging in the shortest space I can, so I now hang my tarp first. I really find the Draumr hangs best the narrower the tree gap

My off the wall suspension Kokomo, has a single point of attachment for each tree. Tarp and hammock go up together at same time.
I’ll show this on a new video combining Kokomo and Kookaburra suspensions. I’ll call it K&K

Unless it is raining, I hang the hammock first.

And I nearly always use a tarp of some sort (small asym) even if there's no chance for precip, because there's always some sort of stuff falling out of the trees.

Tarp first but if the weather is nice I'll leave it wrapped in the snakeskin while I hang the hammock.

    Hammock first. Then tarp.

Differences in tree distances will impact the hammock hang more than the tarp's hang, as long as the trees exceed chosen tarps minimum requirements..

Hammock first, lay in it to see if I got the hang right, possibly take a nap if it's not too hot out, then hang the tarp. Unless it's raining, then the tarp is the first thing to go up without delay.

Like probably everyone else, I prefer hammock first, then center the tarp over the hammock. The exception is rain. In that case the steps are:
    - set tarp
    - set hammock anchor points (tree straps)
    - hang hammock
    - adjust tarp
    - adjust hammock
    - adjust tarp
    - adjust hammock
    - adjust tarp
    - adjust hammock
    - adjust tarp

You get the picture. Setup in rain should be practiced if possible, and even then it's discouraging to find out that the hammock is peeking out from under one end of the tarp.

I voted "tarp first" earlier. Let me embellish. My tarp is in snakeskin, so it's easy to work around it while deploying the hammock. Also, my tarp is on a Brooklyn clothesline, so centering the tarp after the hammock is a non-issue.
