South Dakota Newbie

My name is Corey and I am just getting started with backpacking and using a hammock. I live on the eastern side of South Dakota, so hot summers and bitter cold winters. I love being outdoors so this is just one more thing for me to do. I have a hennessy expedition bottom entry now, it was giving to me years ago when I was a mechanic and spent way to much money on tools haha. I do like using it in the backyard. I have not done a over night in a hammock yet. I have been watching Shug on youtube and he does the kind of camping I am looking to do, his videos are awesome. I love being out in the cold. Welcome to HF. As a SD native son (but moved away), the weather difference between SD and Wisconsin is not so much the temps, but the wind. I miss the wind some days, but not in January-February. Brrr...

The moral of my memory is - make sure to find ways to break the wind at body level, hammock level, tarp level, and terrain level - but you already know that by virtue of where you live. Best wishes to you as you enjoy the outdoors on the farm and prairie lands of east river. Get out to the Hills for sure!
