There is another choice too. UGQ offers a 15D silpoly.

15D is on the far side of my risk-benefit calculation, but good to know somebody is still pushing the envelope
Curious how you guys reached the conclusion that 15D was too fragile.
Ive been using a membrane 15D winter dream for 2 years, It's been threw insane winds, winter hail storms with branches and twigs smacking down on it all night long (scary night) probably close to 100 nights use so far mostly on Backcountry canoe trips. No issues whatsoever.
Remember seeing a post a year or so back with someone from UGQ commenting that while 20D is a little tougher, they basically need around the same force in penetration tests.
My friend has the same tarp as mine in 20D, its just fine as well, been threw pretty much all the same conditions as mine its just a little bit heavier, he intends to replace the tarp with a 13 and will be buying 15D next time.
I'm not saying these sil poly tarps are anywhere near as tough as silnylon or whatever my old DD tarp was made of, but I definitely trust them under reasonable use and wouldn't hesitate to buy 15D again if the need arises.
impressive results!
I clearly have no actual experience-based opinion on 15D. Heck, I just learned it exists! Coming from HH hex in 70D, the stock HH asym not long before that, and not having anywhere near 100 nights under a tarp yet 15D is just more than I want to rely on. I'm cautious. Don't have that 100% comfort factor with my set up choices and rigging and want to get to something like 15D or DCF stepwise.
Of course after writing all this I'll probably wind up buying an enormous DCF winter tarp
I understand, there is nothing wrong with over engineering your gear as long as the weight doesn't get out of control of course.
I might try DCF myself sometime too! No experience with that yet.

Oh, let's see here: Silpoly tarp - hopes crushed within 5 minutes
And since flickr killed my images, let's try relinking that again:
wow Oneclick, scary to see such drastically different results from my own, cant blame you for writing 15D off when that damage is just from one use. I do however wonder if 20D would have fared any better, my friends 20D WD12 barely looks or feels more substantial then mine, compared to say silnylon that is noticeably tougher feeling.
Surprised nobody mentioned it so I'll add that one practical difference is the sound they make.
The SylNylon makes a more muffled sound than the slightly louder SilPoly which kinda sounds like phaser in a cheap Sci Fi movie.
It's quite noticeable.
