Tato or Tensa4

If you were buying a hammock stand, would you get a Tato or Tensa4?

That's where I am at right now. I really like the tensa...a lot, my biggest concern with it however is the lack of a refind tarp mounting solution.

I have no experience with the tense4, but i really like my tato stand.

If you’re moving / carrying the stand around any amount, I don’t think you can go wrong with the Tensa4. If you want a more permanent but mobile if needed stand, the Tato might be better.

Tato for me. I'm getting to old to want to mess with the Tensa and really like my Tato stand.

I have both and have worked with both suppliers. There is no losers here. Tato stand is a solid free standing piece of equipment. Tensa is super light, but you have to have a good understanding of what is going on. It takes a little practice to get the ridgeline tight and make sure your body's weight is on the right side away from the tether. Both are absolutely great pieces of equipment.

While both are portable, they do have some specific applications.

For example, it's easier to deploy a Tensa on a slope or in an area with an uneven surface. A Tensa will fit in a standard hotel room, but a Tato probably will not unless it is a large suite. A Tensa is easier to shift if the wind shifts on you after your initial set-up.

A Tato is stable, solid, and easy to set up on a flat surface. Adding a tarp is straight forward simple. The Tato can probably handle more abuse simply because of its size and weight compared to a Tensa - but why would anyone deliberately abuse either one?

But, yes, accidents happen so if a Tensa collapses, you get a taco; if a Tato collapses, you get a burrito. I've done both...

Tensa4 is more fun! And small and portable.
With the head-end tether you can avoid the mouse trapping.

I purchased my Tato stand from Dutch. It is rock solid, exceptionally stable, and easy to hang a tarp. I use a Warbonnet XLC and RR with great results. I also use it inside the house, in my backyard, and also I bring it with my RV and use it at campgrounds whenever there are not suitable trees to hang. I am not a long distance hiker so the Tato stand allows me to hang anytime and anywhere I want. I’m having a blast trying to wear it out but I don’t think that is possible.

I just got my TATO gear stand from Dutchware last week, and just set it up in my living/dining room (it's pretty long so it stretched into a second room) and slept in my hammock last night. It was really easy to set up, and it is made to take a tarp, which is key for me. The major reason I wanted to get a hammock stand is so I can camp alongside friends and family in campground sites that may or may not have decent hanging trees (or may not allow hanging). The TATO gear stand is reasonably portable *only* for car camping. It can be easily stashed in the bathroom of my parents' RV van for example, but I'd never pack it in anywhere. Can you pack in the Tensa4?
