Can anyone tell me if the cost is worth the difference in the HG incubators? This will be my first underquilt. I’m going to start with a 20 and the difference between the Econ and premium is $130. I can afford he premium but I could use that money elsewhere. Thanks in advance for your input.
The down will have a better weight to warmth ratio and will pack down
smaller. The Econ will be a good choice if there will be a lot of rain or
it will be susceptible to water. How far your hiking and how often
would also be determining factors. 20 degree quilt is 20 degree quilt.
Both will keep you warm unless down is wet)
I have a lot of down and love it but I will choose synthetics for
certain situations. IMO, save your money if you don't need the
weight savings or better compression to fit inside your pack.
Not sure about the Incubator, but I bought 2 Econ quilts from HG, a top and bottom, and am thrilled.
My top quilt is a Burrow Econ 0, and it worked great in the Adirondacks in January when it was below 0.0. It kept me warm.
My Phoenix Econ 30 was awesome last month near Mt Marcy in Northern NY.
If you want to spend the extra cash, go for it, but the Econs have left me satisfied.

I have both. You can’t go wrong with either. The premium is exactly that, premium fabric and incredibly soft goose down. But, practically they aren’t much different. If you don’t care about the slight weight difference I’d recommend the Econ. If you’re the kind of guy that has to have the absolute best, then you may want to consider the premium.

V8 vs V6.
Duck vs Goose.
Both get you there.
One costs less and weighs a bit more.

Here's a different perspective.
I have both 20° and 40° Econ topquilts. With the A/C running at 68-70° while sleeping with a cool mattress topper in central Texas' early summer, the 40° quilt is unbearable; the 20° quilt was doable though.
My guess? The 40° isn't as puffy, so it drapes over every inch of my body to reduce the amount of air that my body needs to keep warm. I would presume that a 850-950-fill 20° topquilt would have the similar effect.
I only have a 20° Wooki underquilt so don't have much experience with its performance between different fill-power. However, I would presume that its performance would be similar to my experience with the Econ topquilts.
If you don't mind the awful stink of duck down, get the Econ. I have a goose down Incubator and a duck down burrow. My burrow stinks whenever there is moisture in the air, which is almost every time I go out.
Yes, duck down would seem to stink more than goose down because ducks are lower to the ground and get all sorts of ground stank on them.

While geese are obviously bigger and have more down, people eat more duck globally than goose so there are more ducks to make your quilts. Goose down definitely has higher fill power than duck down, but five years from now, maybe duck down will dominate the market and goose down will become prohibitively expensive. Given that most of our cottage vendors have moved to providing duck down, I suspect they see the writing on the wall!
I bought all my HG goose-down quilts before duck down ever arrived on the market, so I'm all set. I'm not sure I would buy duck down right now, but I could consider it in a few years!

About 3 ounces and $100. That's the most important and noticeable difference between the quilts.
Duck down vs goose, different fabric. Maybe a slight difference in packability. No real functional difference between them. The Econ is a really great deal, to the point where I have a hard time justifying buying the "premium".
I believe the smell of duck down was an issue at one point, but has since been resolved. I think that came up in an interview with Hammock Gear.
